Correctional Facility Committee (CFC) – What is the responsibility of the CFC in District 2, Area 68?

The purpose of a corrections committee is to coordinate the work of individual A.A. members and groups who are interested in carrying our message of recovery to incarcerated alcoholics. Bringing meetings and literature into facilities, raising awareness of the Corrections Correspondence Service (C.C.S.) among “inside” and “outside” A.A. members, and helping inmates transition to a local A.A. Community through Prerelease contacts are just some of the activities corrections committee’s support.

What do we do?

  • Distribute Big Books for use in correctional facilities using your generous Pink Can donations.
  • Set up contacts for pre-release inmates to assist in getting them to their first AA meeting upon release.
  • Facilitate meetings for alcoholics in county jails/state prisons.
  • Correspond with an inmate to share the message of AA recovery through your experience, strength, and hope.
  • Bridge the Gap by volunteering to be a Pre-Release Contact.
  • Provide direction to get certified/re-certified to facilitate meetings in jails/prisons.

How You Can Help:

Interested in serving but not quite sure where to start? Contact our CFC Chair Amanda W. at a.leewheeler87@gmail.com.

Carrying the message to inmates in Texas is rewarding and uplifting service work. There are several service opportunities from which to choose, and most do not require entering a correctional facility. Each service function is an important part of the overall CFC mission to bring the AA message to incarcerated inmates.

The District 2 CFC Committee generally meets once a month on the third Sunday – please see calendar for upcoming dates.

If you are interested in this type of service work but are not sure how to start, come to the committee meeting to meet the other committee members and get more information about AA in correctional facilities.
